Sentence for Colorado Extraordinary Risk Class 1 Misdemeanors

Class 1 misdemeanors carry a potential sentence of 6 to 18 months in the Larimer County Jail. An extraordinary risk designator extends the maximum sentence to 24 months. However, there are two exceptions to that rule. If convicted of 3rd Degree Assault and the victim is a peace officer, emergency service provider, emergency medical care provider or a firefighter, then the maximum term of imprisonment is doubled. This crime carries a mandatory sentence to jail ranging from 2 years and 1 day up to 4 years.  Another crime that carries a mandatory jail sentence is 3rd Degree Assault when the victim is pregnant. The sentencing range for this crime is 6 months to 24 months. If convicted of 3rd Degree Assault or Reckless Endangerment and the victim is a mental health professional employed by the Department of Human Services, then the maximum term of imprisonment is doubled, however it is not mandatory that a person convicted of this crime is sentenced to jail.
