What is Careless Driving in Fort Collins?
C.R.S. 42-4-1402 – Careless Driving – is defined as:
Sentence for Careless Driving Traffic Offense
Generally, this traffic violation is a class 2 misdemeanor traffic offense. This carries a penalty of 10 to 90 days in Larimer County Jail and anywhere from $150 to $300 in fines. If you plead guilty to or are convicted of class 2 misdemeanor Careless Driving, it will add 4 points to your Department of Motor Vehicles record.
Careless Driving can charged as a class 1 misdemeanor traffic offense in Fort Collins, Estes Park or Loveland if one of the following scenarios occur:
- If the Careless Driving caused bodily injury to another
- If the Careless Driving caused death to another
If not given probation, you may be required to serve 10 days to 1 year in the Larimer County Jail or the Boulder County Jail pay $300 to $1,000 in fines. It will add 4 points to your license if bodily injury is involved, but 12 points will be added if the Careless Driving resulted in a death. You can also expect your insurance rate to rise.
