Colorado’s Law on Contributing to the Delinquency of a Minor, C.R.S. 18-6-701 in Fort Collins

In Fort Collins, Colorado’s law on Contributing to the Delinquency of a Minor, C.R.S. 18-6-701, is as follows:

(1) (a) Any person who induces, aids, or encourages a child to violate any state law that is a felony victims rights act crime as defined in section 24-4.1-302 (1) commits first degree contributing to the delinquency of a minor.

 (b) Any person who induces, aids, or encourages a child to violate any municipal or county ordinance, court order, or state or federal law that is not a felony victims rights act crime as defined in section 24-4.1-302 (1) commits second degree contributing to the delinquency of a minor.

(c) As used in this section, the term “child” means any person under the age of eighteen years.

In other words, you can be charged if you help or encourage any child under 18 years old commit a crime.  The difference between whether it’s charged as a misdemeanor or felony is in whether the defendant encouraged the child to commit a felony Victims Rights Act crime.

Penalties for Contributing to Delinquency in Larimer County

Contributing to Delinquency charged for providing alcohol to a minor in Larimer County is a class 1 misdemeanor.  If you are charged and later convicted, you could be penalized by up to 364 days in the Larimer County Jail and/or a fine of up to $1,000.

  • Was participating in a culinary program or similar program where they tasted but did not drink the alcohol, and they were supervised by an instructor.
  • Consumed a substance containing alcohol (like cough syrup) for medical or hygienic reasons.
